When it comes to your horse and their performance in and out of the ring, what they eat every day has a big contributing factor to the winning formula. Over the last few weeks, some of the big title showjumping shows have occurred in Gauteng including the 2021 United Aviation Derby, the 2021 Burlington Cup as well as the 2021 Reonet World Cup Qualifier.
HH Feeds caught up with the winners of the respective big classes from these shows to hear their thoughts about the big day and what their horses eat to stay in tip top shape for the show ring.
The United Aviation Derby – Lisa Williams & Protein Feeds Campbell
“Campbell eats Protein Feeds Horse cubes. It is a high protein, high fat, maize free feed. It gives him slow-release energy, a shiny coat and helps him build muscle. I hugely attribute his win in the 2021 United Aviation Derby to Protein Feeds. He had the energy and stamina required to perform at his best.”
Dennis, as he is fondly known as, gets a mixture of feed and grass which help keep him in his current show condition.
Feed: Protein Feeds Horse Feed Cubes & Balancer
Fodder: Lucerne & Eragrostis
The Burlington Cup – Ronnie Healy & Cornet’s Mandarino
“In the warmup, I could feel Cornetto was ready for the ring, ready to fight and that touching a fence wasn’t an option. His body, mind and condition were all in tune with each other. Due to him being such a big horse, it has taken time to get him into the condition he currently is in. We have been working all year on getting his muscles developed with the correct work, food and supplements. I couldn’t be prouder of the outcome.”
Cornetto, as he is fondly known as, gets a mixture of feed, grass and supplements to keep him in his current show condition.
Feed: Epol Rider pellets, Equi-feeds Shandy Chaff & feed grade coarse salt
Fodder: Eragrostis & Fresh Barley
Supplements: Myoplast, AAN Ultra Calm (for show days) & Oil (Vuma VO3 or Canega)
The Reonet World Cup Qualifier – Nicole Horwood & UA’s Capital Hitoshi
“Really thrilled with Capital Hitoshi’s performance over the weekend. He definitely peaked at the right time. He has a colic scare a while back and it’s been a very strict monitored diet program to get him back to form. He is currently on Equi-feeds High Fibre 13% Cube and Equi-feeds Balancer for minerals, vitamins and amino acids. For supplements, he gets biotin, salt oil and a joint supplement.”
